I am a nurse, though no longer in the hospital. My husband had a cardiac arrest and I did CPR on him. He is in ICU recovering. Of course, we can’t go in, but the hospital does a conference call when the doctors round. So I can hear what’s going on into the I Love The Person I’ve Become Because I Fought To Become Her Nurse Shirt. I set up a web page or whatever it’s called, on a site called CaringBridge.org, where I put updates and all the people (he’s a popular guy) who want to know how he is can check. It really helps, because I don’t want to talk to multiple people either, and I know the nurses don’t have time for sure.

You should really make this hospital policy. Another helpful thing to say is “Hi, thank you for calling, I already spoke with X about the I Love The Person I’ve Become Because I Fought To Become Her Nurse Shirt today, it would be better for you to reach out to her so that I can continue taking great care of your family member.” Honestly, if only one family member calls to get updates. Multiple family members will call to get updates on the same patient. It takes my time away from my patients to tell the same story to multiple people. Elect one member and have only them call.

I cannot imagine having to do CPR on a loved one. I’m so sorry that you had to experience that. Yet, how wonderful that you are skilled enough to help keep your husband alive. I’m so glad he’s recovering an I Love The Person I’ve Become Because I Fought To Become Her Nurse Shirt and hope he continues to do so and is discharged home soon. You both experienced a life-changing event. Don’t be surprised if either of you will need to discuss your experiences and concerns with a therapist. I wish you both the very best!
