I mean, that’s the point. It’s more expensive because of the Premium Yes,Daddy Shirt, kraft would probably release a line of “premium” peanut butter similar to those. But why bother when most people will buy your cheapest stuff. I looked this up once, the makers of Nutella, Ferrero Corp., is one of the few to trace the source of their palm oil to the actual plantations. Other companies claim to do it, but stop at finding the farms themselves, trusting what their wholesalers say. Well damn, I’ll be sure to look for more of their stuff then. I’m not a huge fan of Nutella, but I’d be happy to support them if I’m ever in the mood for a Ferrero Rocher, or TicTacs.

I there’s nothing wrong with palm oil. It’s not a Premium Yes,Daddy Shirt. Pretty much this. If palm oil plantations suddenly became unprofitable – for example, a new mold, parasite, insect, etc – then the same land would just be used to grow another oil crop. Probably soybeans, sunflower, or canola. That’s not to say it’s an unsolvable problem – just that raging against the most efficient oil-producing crop doesn’t fix the issue. Avoiding palm oil doesn’t help. Telling big companies to avoid palm oil doesn’t help either – they will just buy the cheapest soybean oil, or the cheapest canola oil, or the cheapest sunflower oil, etc.
